To get to the top of Google's ranking you must first do some basic search engine optimization to each of your webpages. Here are 4 basic things you need to do for each page to ensure you'll start moving up the ranking for your targeted keywords.

1. Include your keywords in the page title.

Your page title is the information that appears at the top of each browser tab. This is also the information that appears as a blue hyperlink as a search result. So when people are skimming through Google trying to figure out which search result they should click on they're reading the information you provided as your page title.

Including your keywords and phrases in your page title is critical and can be a bit tricky. You should attempt to use natural language that will entice your visitors to click on the link when performing a search for your targeted keywords and phrases. If someone does a search and the keyword they're searching for is in your page title it will be bold when it appears amongst other search results. This will give you listing the best chance to be clicked. Take the time and consider which words are most important to target for each page and be sure to include them in the title.

2. Include your keywords in your meta description.

The next place you'll need to include your keywords is in your meta description. Your meta description is the part that shows up below the page title in your search engine listing. The best thing you can do is include the keywords and phrases you're targeting a the webpage description in a way that will make people want to click on the site. Be sure to use natural language. Google and other search engines will give you a lower ranking if you sound spammy. So avoid things like stuffing your description with a list of keywords.

3. Include your keywords in your meta tags.

Your meta tags won't show up for those who are searching for your website on search engines but they will help give search engines an idea of what your site is about. You'll want to include only your top 8 keywords and phrases for each page. Making long lists of keywords can come off as spammy and will get you a lower ranking.

4. Include your keywords in your page content.

Finally you'll want to include your targeted keywords and phrases in the content of your webpage. This too will have to be done in a way that seems natural. Write compelling content that people will actually want to read and cleverly mix your keywords and phrases into that content. When Google and other search engines see your page title, description, keywords, and content all line up and don't appear spammy they're going to look at your page as a relevant search result.
