8 Places You Should Be Promoting Your Website

Promote Your Website
Here at WebStarts we're frequently asked the question "I've created a website, now what?".  Once you have a website established you're going to need to get people to find it. So here are 10 things you should do after creating a website to promote it.

1. Search engine optimization.

Search engines like Google are still the best place to be found online. Before you start any SEO campaign be sure to make a good list of keywords and phrases people might use to find products and services like yours online. It doesn't do any good to optimize your pages if you don't know what search terms for which you'd like to rank well.

Once you've created a good list of keywords and phrases you'll want to implement them into the content of your pages, page titles, and descriptions. When your page title, description, and content all talk about those same key words and phrases Google is more likely to rank your page for those terms.  Be careful to use natural language and not come off as spammy. Google's algorithm is pretty good at detecting someone who intentionally loads there pages with keywords without providing any real valuable content.

2. Submit your site to Google.

After your page are optimized be sure to submit your site to Google.  The fastest and easiest way to do this is with a tool like Listing Express.  So many people are submitting webpages to Google at any moment the process of being included within their index can take six weeks. If you choose an option like Listing Express that can be reduced down to a matter of a few hours.

If you don't submit your site to Google you may still end up being included in their search results. This usually happens when someone else links to your website however. So if you don't have a site Google already knows about linking to yours, it's not going to happen. That's why submitting your site is the best bet.

3. Create a Facebook page.

Google's biggest competitor is probably Facebook. Having a presence on Facebook is important because it's become the place people visit the most from their mobile device, and more people than ever are only using their mobile devices to access the web. Creating a Facebook page is easy and you can help compliment your search ranking by including a link from your Facebook page back to your website.

4. Create a Twitter account.

Just like Facebook, Twitter is it's own ecosystem. Whether you take to the time to gain followers on Twitter and produce a stream of interesting tweets, you'll still want to create an account. It's another way to get a backlink to your website that Google will stumble upon and take into consideration while determining the relevance of your site.

5. Create an Instagram account.

Instagram has quickly become the second biggest social network behind Facebook. When I talk to teenagers these days they're far more engaged with their Instagram than Facebook. That makes Instagram another important piece of the site promotion puzzle. Just like all of the places listed in this article you'll want to make sure you include a link back to your website from your Instagram profile.

Keeping your Instagram profile can be fairly easy. Just snap interesting photos that relate to product or service and publish them to your feed. People are more inclined to admire a photo than read a blog post or skim your site.

6. Create a Youtube Channel.

Video is taking over the internet and there's no more popular source for video discovery than Youtube. Everybody I know has some useful knowledge about the category of work they're in. Youtube is the perfect place to share that knowledge through videos and land plenty of leads in the process.

7. Create Local Listings.

I could've written an entire article on creating local listing profiles alone because their are so many. If you're a local business this will play an important role in marketing your website. Google Places, Yelp, and Foursquare are just a few of the long list of companies that focus on local search results and reviews  where you can create an online profile.

8. Create free business profiles.

Just like there are too many places to list where you should create a local listing, there are too many places you can create a general business listing. I can't say it enough, wherever you're creating these listing always be sure to include a link back to your website. Manta and Business.com are just a couple of places you can go to create a free profile.
